He was considered to be the best President to have taken charge of the United States and is praised highly for holding the Union together and to help North gain victory in the Civil War. The political parties that Lincoln was part of were: Whig (1834-1854), Republican (1854-1865) and National Union (1864-1865). Lincoln’s wife was Mary Todd and he had four children.
